The Hourglass Buttock Implant Procedure

The hourglass butt implant procedure is a type of surgery developed by Dr. Cortes to create a
fuller and nicer behind by inserting a solid silicone implant intramuscularly in each buttock. For this procedure also, Dr. Cortes harvests fat from areas of unwanted fat like the abdomen, flanks, back sides, arms, thighs, and the fat is also used to shape your buttock. This information will provide you with what to expect after the surgery, how the surgery is performed, where the surgery will be located among other things.

The Difference Between The Hourglass Butt Implant And Just A Regular Butt Implant Procedure.

With the hourglass butt implant procedure, Dr. Cortes combines not only fat transfer to the side
of the buttock and hips but also a buttock implant. The reasoning behind this is that a buttock implant only would give you projection. It is not going to change the shape of your buttock into a sexy A shape hourglass profile. For this reason, Dr. Cortes always combines liposuction to harvest fat from different parts of your body to shape the buttock on the side.

A traditional buttock implant is only inserting in the buttock implant. It will give you projection, but not the shape.

Best Candidate For The Hourglass Butt Implant

Patients that do not have enough fat or they cannot gain weight for the hourglass buttock augmentation with fat transfer, the hourglass butt implant is an option for you. In this procedure, the patient needs to be approximately 8 to 9 pounds above their ideal weight. The fat in this area will be used with the buttock implant for the best shape possible.

You need to be physically and emotionally healthy with realistic expectations. If you have any medical issues like diabetes, high blood pressure, this condition needs to be under control prior to the surgery. If you are a smoker, you will need to stop smoking before the surgery approximately 2 weeks.

Your consultation

During the consultation, Dr. Cortes will assess all the areas that he will do liposuction and determine if you have enough fat for the procedure. He also will determine if your skin tone is appropriate and if you have too much excess skin in your buttocks that would be a contraindication for the procedure. He will also determine your gluteal muscle anatomy and your dimension and determine which butt implant will be the best for you. He will also determine the type of buttock that you have before surgery and the areas that will require fat
transfer.

Also during your consultation Dr. Cortes will provide you with an example of the buttock implant. The buttock implant is made of solid silicone. It is not as soft as the breast implants. This is one of the things that you are going to need to be sure before having this procedure because the buttock implant will make your buttock feel firm like you have been exercising.

Surgical risk

The hourglass butt implant is a safe procedure. Nevertheless, complications related to liposuction as well as the implant itself carry a small risk. Any time there is an implant that is
placed in the body it can create:

  • Chronic pain.
  • The implant can get infected requiring removal of the implant. There can be fluid collection among other things.

Because the amount of liposuction performed is much less than the hourglass buttock augmentation with fat transfer, the risks of liposuction are also minimized. Nevertheless you can have complications in any surgery for example:

Postoperative complications include the following:

  • Infection.
  • Blood clots.
  • Skin loss or burns.
  • Unsightly scars.
  • Fat embolism.
  • Bleeding and fluid collections.
  • Liposuction deformities.
  • Discoloration of the skin.
  • Prolonged pain.
  • Swelling.

If you are a smoker, you need to stop smoking 2 weeks prior to surgery and 2 weeks after surgery. The reason is to decrease the potential complication rate related to wound healing and anesthetics.

During your preoperative visit, we will discuss all the different complications and things that can occur during surgery, when to return to work, when to start exercising, what medications to avoid, etc. All these details are important to decrease implant infection and wound opening after surgery.

Location, where your surgery will be performed and type if anesthesia

Dr. Cortes performs his hourglass butt implant procedure at Houston Northwest Medical Center.
He will keep you overnight. The surgery is performed under general anesthetic. You will be completely asleep during the whole procedure. The extent of liposuction as well as the insertion of the buttock implant, it is impossible to do these under local anesthetic, which you are not going to tolerate the procedure. Your anesthesia will be provided by a board certified anesthesiologist and his assistance a nurse anesthetist who will monitor also your condition during the surgery.

The Surgery

It typically takes about 3 to 4 hours to perform the hourglass butt implant. The time varies
depending on the amount of fat that needs to be harvested, the amount of presurgical projection that you have, and your buttock anatomy. Typically, Dr. Cores will start by laying on your back. Liposuction will be performed in the thighs, abdomen, flank, and sides. Once these areas are liposuctioned, you will be then re-prepped and re-draped and you are going to be flipped into your prone position, which means you are going to be laying on your chest. Liposuction will be then performed in the upper and lower back. Then, 2 incisions will be made in the intergluteal fold, one for each side of the buttock and Dr. Cortes will dissect an implant pocket in an intramuscular location. Intramuscular meaning the implant would be located inside the muscle. This location is the best option to avoid complications like buttock capsule contracture as well as implant edge visibility and palpability. Once the implant is placed, the incision is closed with stitches. Finally, Dr. Cortes will process the fat that was harvested with liposuction and this fat will be injected with small cannula, about 2.7 mm cannulas and the fat will be injected in multiple passes around the buttock and around the implant. Injecting fat on the side of the buttock, lower part of the buttock, and top part of the buttock will give you a fuller butt as well
as a better shape. This will decrease aesthetic complications as well.
