Before Buttock Augmentation
Know Your Candidacy
Before deciding to go for a buttock augmentation, you should know your candidacy for the procedure. You can be a good candidate for a buttock augmentation if:
- Your buttocks are in uneven shape, small, or unbalanced to fit into your overall physique
- One or both of your buttocks are flat, saggy, or square in shape and have no curves
To qualify for a buttock augmentation, you should be in good health and have realistic goals for the procedure as well as a positive attitude.
Understand the Procedure
It is very important to understand everything a buttock augmentation entails before undergoing the procedure. The procedure involves the placement of a smooth silicone graft into your buttock through a slit. The implant is typically placed below the gluteal tissue. The slit is then secured with stitches. On the other hand, if you choose butt augmentation with fat, then liposuction is performed in different areas and this fat is injected into the buttocks.
Know Your Options
There are two major types of buttock augmentation: Brazilian butt lift and buttock implant surgery. Based on your goals and expectations, your surgeon will advise you on the best type of buttock augmentation for you.
During your initial consultation, you can expect the plastic surgeon to assess your buttocks. Your surgeon will take measurements of your buttock size, evaluate your skin, assess fat donor sites, ask you about your goals and expectations, and tell you what type of buttock augmentation procedure will work best for you. You should make sure to tell your plastic surgeon about your past surgeries (if any), medical history, sensitivities, and medicines you might be taking.
Getting Ready for the Surgery
If you are a smoker, you should quit smoking at least five weeks before the surgery. This will ensure fast and effective recovery. Your surgeon may also tell you to stop taking certain medications, and you should obey these instructions.
After Buttock Augmentation
After a buttock augmentation procedure, your surgeon will tell you how long you should rest and when you can return to work. You will also get thorough directions about post-surgical care. You can expect to have drainage tubes for a few days after surgery so that fluids can be channeled away from the surgical site.
You will also be required to wear a girdle to keep your buttocks in place for a few weeks. The surgeon may provide it, or you may be required to buy it before the buttock augmentation procedure.
Your surgeon may also prescribe you an antibiotic and a pain management drug. You may experience pain in the buttocks for the first few days or weeks. You’ll receive detailed instructions on when to come back for follow-up visits after the surgery. Your surgeon will probably tell you to lie on your stomach while reading or watching TV for the first three days.
You will also feel some itching, inflammation, and bruising at the surgical site. This is absolutely normal and will go away within a week or two. Moreover, you will not be allowed to sit for the first ten days or two weeks. Your surgeon will allow you to return to your normal routine after three to four weeks.
Remember, buttock augmentation requires lifelong care. The longer you care for it, the better it will serve you. Make sure to follow your surgeon’s instructions to keep your augmented buttocks intact.
