Breast Procedures

Breast augmentation is a procedure to surgically increase the size and improve the shape of the breasts. A breast implant of various sizes will increase your breast volume to different shapes. Dr. Cortés typically places the implant behind the muscle to increase your bra cup size. In this brief description, we will discuss the basics of a breast augmentation, what to expect after surgery, and how the surgery is performed, among other things.

The Difference Between the Wonder Breast Augmentation and the Traditional Breast Augmentation

The approach for a breast augmentation used by Dr. Cortés is more technically focused on which implants fit better based on the patient’s anatomy and measurements. The notion that the bigger the breasts, the better it is seen in society does not apply to the natural history of the breast augmentation procedure. Dr. Cortés carefully chooses your breast implants, not only to provide very nice and beautiful results, but also to make sure that the implant is not going to be causing any issues right after the surgery. He has developed a system to choose an implant by taking into consideration the patient’s anatomy but also the desired breast size wanted.

Who Is the Best Candidate for the Wonder Breast Augmentation?

A breast augmentation is recommended for patients that want to have a fuller breast. There are different types of breasts and how the breast augmentation surgery is performed will be determined by your anatomy. A breast augmentation will not fix extremely saggy breasts. These are breasts where the nipple areola complex is lower by more than 3 cm from its correct anatomical location. If you have saggy breasts, then, a simple wonder breast lift or a wonder breast lift with an implant will be a better option for you.

Types of Implants

There are multiple factors that are taken into consideration when performing a breast augmentation. One of these factors is the type of implant. There are different options to choose the best type of implant for a patient:

  • Implant filler, which can be saline or silicone.
  • Implant size, which goes from 150 cc all the way to 800 to 900 cc.
  • Profile of the implant, which can be a high, moderate or low profile implant.
  • Shape of the implant, which can be round or an anatomical shape implant.

Breast implants are medical devices approved by the FDA. They have a silicone shell filled with saline intraoperative or prefilled with silicone by the manufacturer. The safety of the breast implants has been proven beyond reasonable doubt that they do not cause any chronic medical diseases, cancer, etc. The size of the breast implant is measured in cc or cubic centimeters. Prefilled silicone breast implants come in a 25 cc difference between one and the other. For example, it can be a 400 cc implant and then jump to a 425 cc implant, etc. Saline implants are different because they are empty bags that are placed inside the breasts and then filled to the desired volume. So, there is a wide variety of range in terms of the sizes that can be accomplished with a saline implant.

Your Consultation

We encourage you to visit our YouTube channel drwilbertocorteslive for educational videos that Dr. Cortés’s has created. These videos will help you better understand the breast augmentation surgery.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Cortés, not only assesses your breasts, but also your chest dimension. A beautiful breast, not only refers to the size of the breasts, but also to the relationship between the breasts to the chest. He will assess your skin tone, the location of the inframammary fold, and the size of the nipple and areola, among others.

Dr. Cortés will measure your breasts to determine any asymmetry that you have had before the surgery. Remember that your breasts are sisters, not twins. There are always variables that are taken into consideration during your surgery like the volume of your breasts, the location of your nipples, etc. Dr. Cortés will often recommend different sizes of implants to match your breast volume so you do not look loop-sided after surgery.

He will also assess and recommend the best volume that will provide you with beautiful results to suit your preferences to the utmost.
He will assess your medical history, your social history, and the medication you are taking, among other things.

Typically, the main question patients ask when it comes to the implant is “What cup size would be appropriate for my body?” In general, every 150 cc implant is a cup size. So, if you choose a 450 cc implant it will increase your breast by 3-cup sizes.

You should be aware of the fact that, even though the breast implants are permanent medical devices, there is no guarantee that they will last a lifetime and there is a chance that you may need surgery in the future for breast-related issues pertinent to the breast augmentation surgery itself.

Surgery Risks

A breast implant by itself carries a risk like any other procedure of infection and bleeding, to name a few. Nevertheless, a breast implant has its own complication-related issues. One of the most common complications which occurs in 8 to 10 percent of patients is a capsular contracture. The capsular contracture is basically a scar that forms around the implant. Most patients develop a scar around the implant, but it is a very thin layer that does not cause any issue. Although bleeding and infection are risk factors when it comes to capsule contracture, most of the times we do not understand the main cause of a capsular contraction. In severe cases of capsule contracture, the scar gets thick and is squeezed the implant very hard causing the breasts to become painful, hard and distorted. If this occurs, there are various ways of fixing this issue. If it happens early after surgery, medications like vitamin and Singulair have shown to soften the breasts. It is also very important after surgery to perform the breast exercises that Dr. Cortés recommends to decrease the incidence of this effect. Finally, if the capsular contracture gets severe, you will need to have surgery to remove the scar partially or completely.

Rarely a small percentage of patients can develop an infection early after surgery or even months to years after surgery. If this occurs, the implant in some cases needs to be removed and replaced 6 months later.

The sensation of the breasts can change and it includes the breast mound as well as the nipple-areola complex. The nipple can get very sensitive or it can be numb. There can be patches of numbness around the breasts. Most of these symptoms disappear after a while but they can become permanent in some patients.

A breast implant does not cause any problems to the baby in the event that you get pregnant after a breast augmentation and it does not generally interfere with the ability to breast-feed. However, your breasts can change after your pregnancy resulting in additional surgeries required to restore your breasts to their previous form.

As always, there is fear of rupture of breast implants. Rupture can occur due to injury or from a normal compression or movement of the implant causing the shell to leak. If a silicone breast implant breaks, then, your breast will be deflated in a few hours and the body will naturally absorb saline because there is water inside the implant. In cases where the silicone gel implant leaks or breaks, the gel might escape, but it typically stays around the perimeter of the breast pocket. You may not even notice that you have a silicone implant that is ruptured but, if a physical exam or symptoms suggest a rupture, then, an MRI can be used to determine if the implant is ruptured. A mammography is still recommended after a breast surgery in women that are indicated to assess breast cancer. It is technically a more difficult procedure, but it has been shown that breast implants do not increase the chances of women dying of breast cancer.

Location, Where Your Surgery Will Be Performed, and Type of Anesthesia

Dr. Cortés performs his surgeries in the Houston Northwest Medical Center using general anesthesia administered by a board certified anesthesiologist. You will be discharged the same day of the surgery. If multiple procedures are done at the same time, then, you will need to stay overnight at the hospital.

The Surgery

Dr. Cortés performs a breast augmentation using different access incisions. The most common ones are the incisions at the breast fold or the one through the areola. During your consultation, he will determine which one would be the best incision for you for a successful placement of the implant. Regardless of where the incision is placed, the scars tend to heal very well. Once Dr. Cortés performs the incision, he dissects through the breast tissue until the muscle of the chest is identified. He will grab the muscle, cut the muscle at the inferior edge, create a pocket under the muscle, and insert the implant. Once the implant is inserted, Dr. Cortés will use a size to match the volume of the other breast because it is extremely common for women to have some asymmetries in volume that will become more noticeable after surgery. So, he makes sure he uses the most appropriate implant to minimize the asymmetries of the breast that will occur after the surgery. Incisions are closed with reabsorbable sutures and you will be discharged.

What to Expect After Your Surgery

Pain after a breast augmentation is very minor. Nevertheless, we will provide you with pain medication to control any signs of discomfort. The breasts will feel tight and also your implants will ride very high, sometimes with an unnatural look, but all of this will settle within a month through exercises and sometimes using a breast strap to accommodate the implant in the right place. Your sutures will come out in about 7 to 10 days and you need to start doing the breast exercises within days of the surgery.

Getting Back to Normal

You will be able to take a shower right after the surgery. Your breasts will be very sensitive to stimulation, but it is still important that you perform your breast exercises. Your scars will heal slowly and will take about a year to mature, but they will never disappear completely. Routine mammograms and breast exams need to be performed as if the patient had never had a breast augmentation surgery. You will be able to exercise in 3 to 4 weeks and lift heavy loads in about 4 to 6 weeks. If you follow all our recommendations carefully, you should be able to return to work within 3 to 7 days.

The New You

If the proper implant size is chosen, you will have beautiful breasts that will last long. You will need to be very patient since the settling of the breasts will take from weeks to months.

There is a predictable natural history of the evolution of the breast. With pregnancy, nursing,
time, force of gravity, gaining weight, or losing weight, the breast will eventually sag. This is a result of various factors including a loss in skin elasticity as well as damage to the internal suspension ligaments of the breast. A breast lift is a procedure to raise and reshape saggy breasts. There are different ways of lifting the breast. If you have lost a lot of volume, it might be necessary to combine a lift with a breast augmentation. If you have saggy breasts but enough breast volume, then just a breast lift might be sufficient to provide you with a nice result and the volume an size of breast that you might want. The information in this section is mainly related to the Wonder Breast Lift. This is a lift without implants, a technique developed by Dr. Cortes. In this description, we will provide you with information related to the surgery, where the surgery is going to be located, type of anesthesia, and what to expect after the procedure among others. Since there are many factors involved in deciding the best procedure for your breasts, it is important to have a consultation with Dr. Cortes, so he can provide you with the best option to enhance your breast to your satisfaction.

The difference between the wonder breast lift and traditional breast lift

Throughout the history of plastic surgery, there are many techniques that have been developed to
lift the breast. These techniques vary in the way the scar is located, how the nipple is transferred among other things. One of the main problems with any breast lift technique is that not only the breast needs to be lifted, but also the breast shape needs to be changed in such a way that will result in beautiful breasts. In addition, traditional techniques of breast lifts do not give you long-term results. In other words, the breasts are lifted and because the skin is used as the main venue to support the breast, with time the skin will stretch, your breast will bottom out, and even though the relationship between the nipple and the areola with the breast mount is where it is supposed to be, you will lose upper pole fullness. Meaning the fullness on the top of the breast will be lost. The Wonder Breast Lift is a technique developed by Dr. Cortes. This technique is approached very differently than the traditional breast lift. Dr. Cortes sees a breast lift not only as an aesthetic procedure, but also as a breast reconstruction. If we look at the anatomy of a saggy breast, all the major structures of the breast are weak. This is the reason the breast sags. Your skin is thinned and has lost elasticity and tone. Your breast tissue has been replaced by fat tissue and also the ligaments of the breast have been stretched, losing support, allowing the breast to descend. The Wonder Breast Lift will give you not only a lifted breast but also will provide you a long term result as well as a breast shape with an breast implant like look but without an implant. It is an amazing technique that solves many of the issues of all the breast lift techniques.

Dr. Cortes not only reconstructs the ligaments of the breast but also uses the pectoralis major muscle, which is the muscle of the chest to support the breast and the redistribution of the breast tissue for a result that you will be happy with.

Who is the best candidate for a wonder breast lift procedure?

The best candidates for the wonder breast lift are patients with saggy breasts and enough breast
tissue to reshape the breast and provide some fullness to the top of the breast. If you have had massive weight loss and your main issue is excess skin and you have absolutely minimal breast tissue, this technique will not be for you. In addition, you need to be healthy, emotionally stable, and have realistic expectations.

Your consultation

We encourage our patients to watch our videos on YouTube channel Drwilbertocorteslive these
educational videos will provide you with additional information about the procedures that you are interested.

During your consultation with Dr. Cortes, he will examine your breast and measure the distance between the nipple and the lower part of the fold as well as the distance between your sternum and the nipple. These measurements will determine not only the length of your scar but also the different maneuvers that he needs to do to transpose the nipple in a successful position. The longer these measurements are the more extensive the surgery will be. He will also record the difference between the breasts including nipple size, areola size, and breast volume. All women have breasts of different size and shape. Your breasts are not perfect before surgery and
certainly they will not be perfect after surgery. Dr. Cortes always describes the breasts as very close sisters but not twins; you have to be realistic because perfection will not be provided by any breast surgery or any surgery. Nevertheless your breasts will be very symmetric after surgery. During the consultation, he will review your health; make sure you do not have any medical issues that need to be addressed prior to surgery including high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. He will also assess your skin tone and amount of breast tissue. He will discuss with you the probable size of the breast after surgery.

He will also describe the location of the scar as well as setting the expectations and understanding the shape that you want.

If you have any medical issues these will need to be addressed prior to surgery. Sometime Dr. Cortes will request medical clearance prior to the surgery and make sure that it is going to be safe.

Surgical risk

The Wonder Breast Lift is a technically challenging procedure that is very safe, but any surgery
carries some uncertainty and risk. Some of the risks can include:

  • Infection
  • Loss of nipple sensation
  • bleeding
  • wide scars,
  • poor healing with unsatisfactory scars,
  • blood clots,

Cosmetic surgery is safe however any surgery carries uncertainty and risks.

During your preoperative visit, we will provide you with specific consents for the breast lift and we will discuss any concern that you might have regarding complications and things that can occur during surgery. In addition we will discuss specific instructions about your procedure to minimized complications.

Location, where your surgery will be performed and type if anesthesia

Dr. Cortes performs his surgeries at the Houston Northwest Medical Center over at 1960 and 45.
The surgery takes about 3 to 4 hours to perform. Occasionally, you will need to stay after surgery if multiple procedures are scheduled like the hourglass mummy makeover or with the hourglass buttock augmentation or buttock implant. If you are admitted to the hospital, you will stay for 1 day assuming there are no issues. Dr. Cortes performs all his surgeries under general anesthesia. This surgery is a very extensive surgery that will provide you long term results and it will be virtually impossible to do it on the local anesthetic in a very safe manner. Local anesthesia will not be an option and you can’t be awake during surgery. It will extremely uncomfortable to have this surgery under local anesthetics.

The Surgery

The Wonder Breast Lift takes about 3 to 4 hours to do. One of the main differences with this
technique is that Dr. Cortes does not do the inverted T-shaped scar that everybody else does. He believes this scar is a horrible scar that extends all the way to the midline and if you decided to use a sexy bathing suit or you want to show some cleavage, the horizontal scar might be visible. For this reason, he performs a vertical breast lift with a short horizontal limb that goes towards the side not towards the midline. During the day of surgery, Dr. Cortes will mark your skin with double opposing triangles, these markings will help transpose your nipple areola complex as well as isolating the lower part of your breasts that have sagged with its own blood supply to transfer and provide you upper pole fullness. He will use the pectoralis major muscle as a sling to support the lower inferior tissue that will be transferred as well as he will suspend the nipple areola that is being transposed with sutures and ligaments that will prevent the tissue from rotating anteriorly and preventing what is called bottoming out of the tissue with loss of the upper pole fullness of your breast. He will determine during surgery the amount of excess skin that is to be removed and instead of cutting this excess skin, he uses the skin as ligaments to support the breast and provide you a nice shape. Once he determines the amount of excess skin
that needs to be removed to fit your new breast, he will close the incisions and provide you with a nice round breast that looks like you have breast implant without implant for an amazing result.

What to Expect After Your Surgery

After your surgery, Dr. Cortes will assess your nipple areola for any signs of issues including
lack of blood supply and/or areas that will need to be followed closely to avoid any wound healing issues. You will be extremely bruised and swollen. Your breast many times tends to look very high after the surgery and a little bit flat at the bottom part, but all this will settle with time. You will wear a surgical bra for support. You will need to use these constantly for 2 to 3 months. Your skin will be dry and bruised after surgery. You can start using lotions and moisturizers to help improve your skin. You can expect some change in your nipple sensation, most patients still have some sensations after surgery, and some patients have more sensation
after surgery. Your stitches will be removed in 7 to 10 days, bandages will be removed the day after the first visit.

Getting Back to Normal

You need to be very patient; healing takes weeks to months. You will notice your breast changing shape, getting better by the day. We will provide you with detailed instructions on when to shower, what to eat, things that you should be doing.

After the surgery your breast will feel tight and you will need to time to adjust to your new lifted breast. As time progresses your breast will continue to evolve to an implant like look without an implant. You will be able to exercise in about 3-4 weeks by doing light cardio. You will be able to lift weight in about 4-6 weeks. The process of a breast lift takes 4 – 6 months to settle.

Dr. Cortes will give you instruction for medications, follow-up, showering precautious, drain care as well as what to expect after surgery. His staff will communicate with you with e-mail, phone, and text to monitor your progress.

The New You

After the surgery, you will look like you have breast implant without breast implant. You need
to understand that anytime there is a breast lift, you will have scars particularly if you have a lot of sagginess prior to surgery. These scars are permanent. The scars mature with time, they are red initially, and then they fade away. The Wonder Breast Lift will give you a long term result. Nevertheless, it is not an antigravity procedure and with time and ageing most likely your breast will sag again. There is no question that the Wonder Breast Lift is the best breast lift technique for aesthetically beautiful results.

Most frequently asked questions.
Can I lose sensation of my nipples?

With any breast surgery there is the risk of having loss of sensation. With saggy breasts some patient already have abnormal sensation of your nipples and areolas. Yes you can have decrease sensation of the nipples but many times it comes back.

Will my breast sag again?

The wonder breast lift was developed for the purpose of providing you a better and long-standing results. The procedure does not stop the effect of gravity and also aging. The older you get and with time your breast will eventually drop again. This is the beauty of the wonder breast lift were the breasts will hold a nice shape better that other tehniques.

Loss of breast volume secondary to weight loss, pregnancy results in saggy breasts with a deflated appearance. As the skin loses its tone and the attachments of the breast to the muscle weaken, the breasts sag with time. Certainly, pregnancy makes things worse due to the hormonal changes that occur during this time. Youthful and fuller breast can be restored with a breast augmentation and a lift. These two procedures can be done at the same time. If you have considered having a breast lift with an augmentation, this information will help you understand what to expect after the surgery, the surgery itself, postoperative care among others. Dr. Cortes performed the Wonder Breast Lift with augmentation. This is a different approach in a spectrum of multiple procedures to enhance your breast.

The Difference Between Traditional Breast Lift With Augmentation And The Wonder
Breast Lift With Augmentation.

Dr. Cortes performs the Wonder Breast Lift with augmentation. With this technique, he uses a
different approach to provide you with long-term result. When a breast augmentation is performed with a breast lift, it is essential to choose the right breast implant. That will provide you not only beautiful results and nice fullness but also will minimize immediate breast sagginess or bottoming out of the implant secondary to the weight of the implant. He uses suture suspension of the breast implant to prevent the implant from bottoming out while the healing process continues. With a traditional breast lift, the surgeon typically relies on a weak skin
envelope to support the implant. Historical data has demonstrated that a weak breast will not support an implant for very long time. This is the reason he uses different techniques to make sure that the implant and the relationship with the breast mound stays in the right place for an long time.

Who is the best candidate for the wonder breast lift with augmentation?

There are many different types of breasts. Typically patients that have lost significant amount of
volume are the best candidates for this procedure. Lifting a breast by default will make your breasts smaller. If you desire to restore volume of your breasts then this procedure will be the best option for you. Other factors that determine if you are going to be a good candidate for this procedure is a very asymmetric breast. When you have very asymmetric breasts with a breast volume significantly different, performing a Wonder Breast Lift without implant is not a good option. In these patients, the volume can be matched by providing 2 different breast implants to match the volume and shape of the breast.

Your consultation

Dr. Cortes has created multiple vides to educate his patients better you can watch the videos on
his YouTube channel drwilbertocorteslive.

During the consultation, Dr. Cortes will assess your breast. He will determine the relationship
between your nipple-areolar complex to the general breast mound. He will do some measurements from the nipple all the way to the breast inferior fold as well as from the nipple to the sternal notch. He will also determine the breast volume and he will document any asymmetry not only in volume, shape, breast distribution, among others. In order to choose the best breast implant for you, he will measure your breast width, in other words how wide your
breast is. Using these measurements, he will suggest a type of implant that will be suitable for you. You will also be able to try some breast sizers. These sizers will help you visualize the correlation between implant volume and cup size.

It is very important that you understand that when it comes to a breast lift with an augmentation, we need to be careful on the size of the implant that your body will accept versus the one that you desire. Remember the reason you need a breast lift is because your breasts are weak. If you put a big implant, your breast will sag early after surgery. You can also develop back pain and wider scars among other things..

He will assess also your medical history including any medical problems that might need to be taken into consideration and be under control prior to surgery. If you are more than 50 years of age, he will require you to have a mammogram in order to have the baseline prior to doing the surgery and make sure that you do not have breast cancer or mass.

Surgical risk

Breast lift like any other surgery has risks related to anesthesia and the surgery itself. For
example, you can have bleeding or an infection. An infection can be just the skin or the implant can get infected. If the implant get infected, it needs to be removed. You have to understand that your scars can get widened. The implant can bottom out, you can have malposition on the implant among other things. All these complications and risks will be discussed with you during your preoperative visit and Dr. Cortes and his staff will explain to you page by page.

One of the main things that need to be determine before surgery is the size of the implant that will fit you better. The bigger the implant that you want the more complications you can have. This is for the simple fat that you will be at higher risk of having implant related aesthetic complications.

Location And Where Your Surgery Will Be Performed

Dr. Cortes performs his breast lift with augmentation under general anesthesia. The surgery is
complicated and extensive surgeries that can last 2 to 4 hours depending on how much of a sagginess you have. A Board Certified anesthesiologist will provide anesthesia with his assistant, a nurse anesthetist. Typically, you will go home the same day but if you combine this procedure with other procedures like tummy tuck, then you might need to stay overnight at the hospital.

The Surgery

The techniques to lift the breast depends on the level of sagginess that you have. If your nipples
are off by about 2 to 3 cm, Dr. Cortes will be able to perform what is called a minor lift where the scar is going to be around the areola. In more severe cases where your sagginess is more than 4 cm, you are going to need a Wonder Breast Augmentation with lift, where the scar will go around the areola and down like a lollypop and many times with a horizontal short limb to the side. Dr. Cortes does not perform the inverted T or the anchor scar. He believes this provides a very bad scar that extends all the way to the midline. If you wear or show any cleavage with any underwear, bikini, or nightdress, this scar can show. The procedure starts by first Dr. Cortes assessing what is the smallest breast that you have. Dr. Cortes already would have predetermined the range of implant sizes that he will use during your surgery. The smaller breast will have a bigger implant and in the larger breast, he will use a sizer to match the volume to the other breast. An incision is performed and the implant is placed in a submuscular plane. Once the implant is placed in the right breast pocket he will tailor tacking the skin to remove the excess skin. In this way the new breast the skin will redrape the new breast mound perfectly.

What to Expect After Your Surgery?

After your surgery, your breast will be swollen.Nipple sensations can change and many times it
either stays the same or actually increase in sensation. Rarely you can have complete loss of nipple sensation, which is one of the risks of the procedure. In general, breast surgery is not very painful but it feels more like a soreness. You will be bruised and swollen. You need to start massaging your breast lightly. Your stitches will be removed within 7 days. You will wear a support bra for about 2 to 3 months. You will be able to start exercises and doing regular activities in about 3 to 4 weeks. You need to take about 10 to 14 days off work prior to going back. You should be avoiding any heavy lifting at the beginning for about 3 to 4 weeks. We will provide you with instructions on when to have sex and when to return to work. You will feel with less energy the first 2 weeks but then you will slowly get back to your normal energy levels. You should limit the exercises to just cardio and heavy lifting for about 4 to 6 weeks.

Getting Back to Normal

Your breasts will settle with time. Initially, the breast implant might look very high and this will change slowly throughout the month. Dr. Cortes will make sure that your scars are closed the best he can but you need to understand that in a severe breast lift you are going to have longer scars that are permanent. Nevertheless scars mature with time and your scars will be looking much better with time. Remember to wear a support bra or a regular bra. A breast lift is not a procedure to avoid using any support. Anecdotal studies have shown that a bra will help slow the sagginess process in the future. Remember that breast lift will recreate your breast relationship between the nipple-areolar complex and the breast mound, but it is not an anti-gravity procedure or an anti-aging procedure. With time, your breast will sag again.

The New You

You will notice that your breast will be fuller right after surgery. You need to give time to let the breasts settle and get use to your new lifted breasts. The process will take about 4-6 weeks after surgery.

The Wonder breast reduction is a technique developed by Dr. Cortes. Women who have a very large saggy breast many times experience symptoms of back pain, upper and lower back pain, shoulder grooving, skin irritation under the breast, and breathing problems. In addition, it can make many patient’s very self conscious with low self esteem. The Wonder breast reduction was designed to solve many issues related to macromastia or enlarged breasts. The procedure removes fats, excess skin, and reduces the breast to a healthier size.

This information will provide you with some details about the breast reduction technique, what to expect after surgery, postoperative care among others.

The Wonder breast reduction, the difference versus a traditional breast reduction:

There are many techniques to reduce the breast, but none will provide you with the shape and long-term results like the Wonder breast reduction. A typical breast reduction technique or the traditional breast reduction technique reduces the breast, but many times it does not provide you with a nice shape. It will effectively diminish your symptoms of a large breast at the expense of a suboptimal breast shape. Because traditional breast reduction relies on the skin envelope to maintain the shape and provide you with the result, typically the breast tissue will sag and bottom out after a period of time. To solve this problem, Dr. Cortes recreates the breast by performing essentially not only a breast reduction, but a breast reconstruction. The breast is reduced accordingly to the patient’s desired size, but at the same time enough tissue is preserved
to provide you with an upper pole fullness or fullness at the top of the breast and also reconstructs all the structures that have been weakening with time including the suspensory ligaments of the breast. The Wonder breast reduction is the technique to achieve outstanding breast shape and at the same time, reduce you symptoms.

Beast candidate for the Wonder breast reduction:

Although the breast reduction is performed for cosmetic improvement, many times is a functional surgery to improve the symptoms of enlarged breasts. Breast reduction is typically performed once the women’s breasts have fully developed and if the large breasts are causing significant physical discomfort. You need to be physically and emotionally mature enough to understand what the procedure will do and also have realistic expectations.

Your consultation

During your initial consultation, Dr. Cortes will measure you breast and determine the amount of
breast tissue that will require excision. Measurements will be done to determine how much the nipple areolar complex needs to be transposed. Dr. Cortes will discuss the variables that may effect your result including your age, size, and shape of your breast and the tone and condition of your skin. In addition, your health history, social history will be reviewed to make sure that there is no underlying conditions that might effect your outcome.

Surgical risk

The Wonder breast reduction is not a simple operation. It is actually a very advanced plastic
surgery technique. The wonder breast reduction technique is a safe procedure but it can have certain risks associated with it. You can have bleeding, infection, loss of nipple sensation, reactions to anesthesia, scars can be wide with poor healing requiring revision among others. During the preoperative visit, we will discuss with you in details the consents related to breast reduction and explain page by page everything you need to know regarding risks and benefits of the surgery.

Where you surgery will be located and type of anesthesia:

Your surgery will be performed in the Houston Northwest Medical Center located at 1960 and
45. Surgery typically takes about 3 to 4-1/2 hours depending on the size of your breast. The surgery will be performed under general anesthetic. You will be completely asleep throughout the procedure. It is not possible to perform this procedure under local anesthetic because of the length of the surgery,

The Surgery

The Wonder breast reduction technique differs from traditional breast reduction technique by the
fact that the procedure avoids the anchor-type incision. Dr. Cortes will dissect your breast tissue and transpose you nipple areola complex, en bloc with some breast tissue to successfully lift your nipple to the right position. He will also create an inferior breast tissue dissection and move the breast tissue to provide fullness on the top of the breast. He will use the muscles of the chest as well as the excess skin to recreate the ligaments of the breast and at the same time provide support for a long-term result. The resultant scar will be a scar around the areola going vertically down and if there is more excess skin to remove, it will have a short horizontal limb going to the side, but not towards the midline.

What to Expect After Your Surgery

After the surgery, you will be wrapped with bandages and gauze over a surgical bra. You are
going to feel some pain for the first couple of days when you move or cough. The bandages will be removed after the first 7 to 10 days. Swelling and bruising will subside over the course of 3 to 6 weeks. You breast will feel very high and will settle with time for a rounder look as the time progresses. You can expect loss of nipple sensation that many times will recur with time. If you have just breast reduction surgery you will discharge the same day of surgery. You need to take about 10 -14 days off work for your initial recovery. We will give you instructions for medications, diet, showering

Getting Back to Normal

You need to take about 10 -14 days off work for your initial recovery. We will give you
instructions for medications, diet, showering. You will be able to exercise in about 2 -3 weeks. No heavy lifting for about 4 -6 weeks. You will need to wear a support bra for 2 – 3 months. Swelling will get better with time.

Your new body:

The Wonder breast reduction will give you a very nice full looking smaller breast. Dr. Cortes
will close the incisions to minimize you scar, but you need to realize that the scars will be long. The scars fade with time over the span of a year.

You will notice that if you had symptomatic enlarged breasts before surgery that the symptoms will resolve after surgery. It will take time to adjust to your new breast.
