Getting a fat transfer to the butt and breasts
Lipofilling or correction of features of the body by using the patient’s own adipose tissue (also called fat transplant or fat grafting) is one of the most revolutionary techniques developed in recent years in the field of cosmetic surgery. Liposuction removes fat and the plastic surgeon introduces it to other areas of the body where more volume is needed.
This technique has several advantages: there are no significant scars left behind, the result is very natural, and the adipose tissue remains permanently in place provided that there are no large fluctuations in weight of more than 10 kg. In addition to being used to correct imperfections of the face, lipofilling is also used for increases in breasts, buttock, and hip volume. Depending on the areas addressed with the procedure, a percentage of 60 to 80% of the transferred fat will remain in the area after two months. Therefore, in some cases, it takes more than one session to get the desired result.
Getting fat transfer to the butt and breasts is a common practice nowadays for women who lack sufficient volume in the areas mentioned. The procedure is completely safe and associated with few and minor side effects and risks. Moreover, the results can easily be sustained after the first few months.
Getting fat transfer to the buttocks
The procedure is also known as the Brazilian butt lift, a procedure with considerable effects on the overall aesthetics of the body as it can remodel the waist and the midline and create curves in all the right places, especially on the rear end of the patient. Generally speaking, fat transfer is not necessarily used for augmentation purposes, but to create a more attractive contour of the body. Areas with a fat overload are treated with liposuction. This adipose tissue is then introduced into areas where more volume is needed. Here, it is important to focus not only on achieving a larger posterior but also on the ideal proportions for the patient’s body type. A lifting effect can also be achieved by applying fat to certain areas of the body.
When considering fat transfer, the patient must have areas of the body where fat is in excess. Usually, these areas are the abdomen and flanks, but it can also be the thighs or lower back. While fat deposits are mandatory and the procedure can’t be performed without them, patients undergoing this procedure need to have a normal weight that has been stable for at least eight months to a year. Weight fluctuations are one of the factors that can significantly damage the results of liposuction or fat transfer.
During the pre-operative consultation, the plastic surgeon will assess your anatomy and the condition of your tissues, aside from the fat deposits on the body, to decide whether you can undergo the procedure or not.
Lipofilling is not a painful procedure. The areas where liposuction is performed may, however, be more sensitive or suffer changes in sensitivity in the weeks to follow. The pain prevention protocol we have developed specifically makes pain very well tolerated by a vast majority of patients, especially if tumescent liposuction is performed.
During the recovery period, the patient has to avoid sitting directly on the buttocks or lying on the back at all costs. This is a crucial part of getting satisfactory results after fat transfer. Many patients who had the procedure and are disappointed with the results didn’t follow this recommendation. Sitting directly on the buttocks can lead to the death of the fat cells that were grafted. Hence asymmetries can occur, and the aesthetic result can be compromised. Also, the use of compression garments is very important. As soon as the procedure is performed, the patient will be dressed in compression garments that need to cover the areas treated with surgery. These garments help reduce the swelling and also better define the results.
Getting fat transfer to the breasts
While breast augmentation with implants is without question among the most commonly performed procedures in the world nowadays, there is another procedure that attracts more and more fans with each year. Breast augmentation with no use of implants is possible nowadays but also offered by plastic surgery. For patients interested results that are discreet and moderate in terms of the increase in breast size, we have fat transfer to the breasts.
But what type of patient can resort to getting fat transfer to the breasts? The pre-operative consultation with the plastic surgeon will confirm your eligibility for undergoing the procedure. When assessing the candidacy for breast lipofilling, the plastic surgeon will take into consideration the health history of the patient, current health and emotional condition, medication, allergies, and also the age and condition of the tissues of the breasts. An important condition to be fulfilled to be eligible for fat transfer is having unwanted fat deposits in other areas of the body that can be addressed with liposuction. When it comes to transferring fat to the breasts, the plastic surgeon will want to address areas such as the waist, flanks, and even the abdominal wall. This will ensure getting more spectacular results as the breasts will look bigger if we reduce the thickness of the fat layer under the breasts.
Even if the procedure is less invasive than breast implant surgery, patients are still required to have a series of tests done before being able to undergo the procedure. Among these tests are a breast echography or a mammogram if the patient is over 40 years old, as well as regular blood tests.
There are several benefits associated with getting fat transfer to the breasts, and probably the most important one is that it makes it possible for the patient to achieve a moderate augmentation of the breasts and a beautiful, full shape without the need to use external prostheses such as implants. Moreover, the procedure leaves little marks on the breasts, and this is another reason why patients prefer it than implants. However, it is also important to understand that the results achieved with fat transfer to the breasts are not comparable with the results of a breast implant surgery. Breast lipofilling can increase the volume of breasts, but usually no more than one cup size bigger. Fat grafting does not provide a radical change in the shape of the breast and a radical gain in the volume of the breasts.
Inflammation can naturally occur, and the result can’t be evaluated until after three to six months. This technique is suitable for women who are looking for a moderate increase in their breast more than a dramatic transformation like the one that can be achieved when using silicone implants with a high profile. If the expectation is realistic, patients are generally very satisfied with the results.
This technique also makes it possible to correct certain defects after breast surgery such as the visible contour of the implant, apparent folds, or a volume increase secondary to the placement of implants. This means that many patients choose to have fat transfer at the same time or after getting implants to make the results more natural.
The recovery period is often shorter than in the case of getting breast implants. However, patients are advised to wear the special post-op or sports bra for at least a few weeks non-stop. Not lying on the tummy is essential as this is the only way to avoid the death of the fat cells transferred.
Getting fat transferred to the butt and the breasts is a safe and natural method to enhance the appearance of these features of the body. The procedures entail little risks and minor complications and are preferred by patients who would rather have insignificant scarring and no use of external prostheses. The recovery period after fat transfer is shorter than if implants are used. However, there are similar requirements that the patient needs to follow for at least three weeks post-op. Keep in mind that it is only an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon that can help you achieve the best results possible when getting fat transfer to the butt and breasts.
