Scheduling the return to work after breast lipofilling
Breast augmentation performed with the help implants is one of the most commonly performed plastic surgery procedures in the world. Many women resort to this procedure to get the breasts of their dreams. Breast implant surgery is safe and the implants used nowadays by board-certified plastic surgeons are of a high quality and very durable. However, just like any other surgery, breast augmentation with implants has certain risks and complications associated with it.
Among the long-term consequences that patients undergoing the procedure can deal with is capsular contracture, the rippling, and visibility of the implants, and even implant rupture or leaking. However, these complications are not as big a turn-off as scarring left behind after the procedure. The scars of breast implant surgery are positioned either around the areola, in the inframammary fold, or the axilla. The scars are often barely visible and easily masked even with lingerie and swimsuits; however, there are women who would like to get bigger breasts without having to deal with permanent marks that are left on the breasts. For the patients who want to avoid scarring or the potential complications associated with using implants, nowadays we have breast lipofilling available.
Breast lipofilling entails the use of the patient’s own fat cells to be harvested from areas where they are in excess, processed, and then reinjected into the breasts. The procedure is safe and can be performed in a matter of hours. It is important to have the procedure done by a board-certified plastic surgeon in an accredited medical facility to minimize the risks that are present in any type of surgery.
It is important to mention that breast lipofilling doesn’t provide the same type of augmentation as implants can, so the procedure is recommended for patients who desire a moderate increase in the size of the breasts. The good news is that the recovery period is shorter, less painful and uneventful for patients. Of course, patients undergoing the procedure still need to follow the recommendations of the plastic surgeon to the letter and wear the compression bra and not lie on the tummy, among others.
Scheduling the return to work after breast lipofilling can be done within the first two weeks post-op. This means that in a vast majority of cases, patients can return to work even starting from the second week after the procedure. The instruction is to avoid intense physical activities for at least three months or more, so if job responsibilities include physically demanding tasks, you should discuss this aspect with the plastic surgeon in detail, even from the pre-operative consultation for the procedure. Even if the patient can return to work even before the two week mark, it is important to continue to follow the instructions of the surgeon and go to the scheduled consultations.
