Swelling and bruising after buttock enhancement procedures

Fat transfer is one of the least invasive methods of buttock enhancement, but you will still notice swelling and bruising after this procedure. The most invasive stage is the harvesting of fat, which can trigger inflammation, redness, and bruising. The swelling and bruising after the fat transfer procedure will subside within one or two weeks.

Since the swelling and bruising is not so intense, you can resume your normal routine from the second week after the procedure; however, you should take good care of the surgical site. The residual bruising and tenderness will gradually recede with the passage of time. The symptoms of swelling and bruising will completely fade by the third week; however, it requires about six months for the transferred fat to institute blood allocation and for the ultimate outcomes to settle in.

On the other hand, another buttock enhancement method called the buttock lift involves the creation of large incisions, triggering intense and protracted swelling and bruising. Compared to buttock enhancement via fat transfer, it takes more time to recover from a buttock lift. You will also experience pain in your buttocks in addition to the bruising and swelling. Normally, it takes at least a month for the bruising and swelling to subside, and full recovery may take more than six months.

No matter what type of buttock enhancement surgery you opt for, bruising and swelling will kick in after the procedure, creating discomfort for you. Even though you may be able to resume your normal routine and work in the second week after the surgery, sitting down for longer periods is not recommended. The swelling and bruising may increase upon exertion of pressure. You should allow your enhanced buttocks enough time to heal.

Your plastic surgeon may tell you to use a compression bandage or garment to decrease inflammation and bruising during your recovery period. This is highly recommended, so make sure to wear it for at least two weeks after the buttock enhancement procedure. In order to help manage the discomfort created by the swelling and bruising, your plastic surgeon may also prescribe medication. You should make sure to take it according to the instructions of your surgeon.

The final results of buttock enhancement will be visible after the swelling and bruising have completely subsided. When the swelling goes away, you can expect about a 30 percent reduction in gluteal volume, but your buttocks will be more beautiful, round, and voluminous.

If you are a smoker, you will notice slow healing of the post-surgical swelling and bruising. You should make sure to stop smoking at least three weeks before the surgery and to remain a non-smoker for at least two months after the surgery. If you feel or see any abnormality in the swelling or bruising, you should visit your plastic surgeon immediately. Do not panic if you experience pain and discomfort for the first few days after the surgery, but if the pain becomes unbearable, consult your doctor.
